Michael Porter Jr.’s fourth-quarter eruption, Jamal Murray’s 40-point night give Nuggets 2-0 lead

Published Fri, 21 Feb 2025 11:10:06 GMT

Three-letter chants have been commonplace at Ball Arena this season, only this one sounded different.“M-P-J” boomed throughout the lower bowl in the fourth quarter of Wednesday night’s tense Game 2 playoff game in homage to Denver’s supremely talented sniper. Michael Porter Jr. dashed Minnesota’s hopes with an enthralling 13-point fourth quarter as the Nuggets survived, 122-113.Though Porter came alive in the fourth, Game 2 was Jamal Murray’s show. Without his stunning 40-point night, the Nuggets don’t head to Minnesota for Friday’s Game 3 up 2-0. Murray carved up the T-Wolves’ backcourt with six 3-point daggers and even more devastating dribble penetration as he went 13 of 22 from the field.“The kid is a warrior,” Nuggets coach Michael Malone said, joking they’d need to carry Murray onto the plane to Minnesota after playing 39 minutes. If Game 1 was a reminder of Murray’s playoff credentials, Game 2 was a time capsule to his scoring eruptions in the Bubble.By...

She wants to be well enough to care for our baby and be around to raise our child. But this is not in the cards for us. So we’ve decided to channel all of our energy into spending the time we have left focused on joy!”Two years ago, Ma...

CONCORD — There is no denying Alec Blair’s talent on a basketball court. In his first two high school seasons, the 6-foot-5 sophomore led De La Salle to consecutive appearances in the North Coast Section Open Division final and Open Division state playoffs, receiving all-area honors along the way.But even as he flourished on the hardwood, there was always a question about the basketball star.Isn’t he good at baseball, too?For those who weren’t sure, Blair peeled back the curtain Wednesday against Granada.Batting from the left side, he smashed a tape-measure shot over De La Salle’s right-field fence in the fourth inning to tie the score. Two innings later, with two out and the score still deadlocked, Blair launched another no-doubt-about-it homer to right that lifted the Spartans to a 2-1 victory in a matchup between the East Bay Athletic League’s hottest teams.“It felt pretty good,” said Blair, the Spartans’ center fielder. “...

GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) — Top stars were missing and no titles were at stake. Still, the United States took satisfaction in coming from behind late for a 1-1 exhibition draw against Mexico.“There’s no friendlies against Mexico. Matt Miazga’s giveaway to Atuna led to Rodríguez’s shot off the crossbar and Miazga lofted the rebound from inside his penalty area to Sergiño Dest, who dribbled through the midfield and passed to Alan Soñora in the center circle. Soñora sent the ball wide to Jordan Morris, who crossed toward a streaking Ferreira. “Jesús is always making good runs in the box and I just tried to put it out there for him,” Morris said.Defender Luis Chávez tried to clear and the ball glanced off his foot to Ferreira, wh...
